More political than your drunk, vegan activist cousin at Christmas, the Australian scene is no stranger to controversy. In 2016, there was none larger than the downfall of Maitreya Festival. Worldwide, doofers and ravers mainlined popcorn as the saga unfolded on social media. If you were in the global scene at the time, ticket holder or not, you fell into either of two camps; fuck the system or fuck the promoter.

At its zenith, Maitreya was hailed as ‘the next Rainbow,’ with old school crew leaving the latter in droves once the Instacrowd began flooding the market…
